CANON INFORMATION
CHARACTER NAME: Claire Novak
CANON: Supernatural
HISTORY: Fandom Wikia
STRENGTHS: Claire’s ruthlessness came from her years of being on her own, people ditching her or betraying her meant she’s learned how to fight, steal, and take care of herself. She’s a very solitary person although she does care for her ‘family’ such as it is.
But in that ruthlessness there’s a determination, she’s never given up improving, and trying to find a place for herself. She’s never given up on the idea she can be happy, she just- lost her way to get there. She is, well, a fighter. She fights for herself because nobody else will (at least, that’s how she viewed it.
To help that she’s surprisingly quick on the uptake. She’s smart and quick to pick up new skills, as a part of improving herself. She taught herself how to track down people and information almost entirely. And once she’s given a skill from someone who knows, she can hone it on her own just fine.
FLAWS: Claire does not play well with others. The opposite side of her ruthless determination is she’s too independent for her own good. Even her family she picks fights with and doesn’t call them in fear they might bench her to ‘protect’ her. This also means she goes hunting alone which is a terrible thing nobody should do.
Growing up without parents have left her with some authority issues. She doesn’t trust people with authority to actually be good or reasonable people, or that they know what’s up. She was orphaned by something normal people don’t know about (and wouldn’t believe anyway). She generally goes and does what she wants, pretty much like a wild animal. Paradoxically (but related), when she finds an authority she has some attachment to she tries too hard to please them and prove herself. A mix of this and the above issue.
You’d be shocked to discover a child orphaned and bouncing around the system for years has grown up with some anger and resentment issues to her. She’s pretty much ready for a fight all the time, paranoid all good things won’t last. And even if she thinks they will last, probably not with her involved. Also generally sure there are monsters involved in things because that’s just her life. She started hunting for monsters that weren’t there because she needs that fight.
CANON ABILITIES: She’s an angelic vessel but that doesn’t do much without an angel wearing you like a meat suit. She is, otherwise, a capable hunter, survivor, pick pocket, and delinquent.
AU INFORMATION
AU CHARACTER NAME: Claire Novak
AGE: 22
GRADE: Undergrad, TA in armed combat, unarmed combat, and researching the occult.
AU BACKSTORY: Claire’s life runs more or less like canon through Season Eleven. Her life was pretty normal until her dad became host to an angel, from that point she lost her dad. Then her mom checked out, then she bumped around through group homes, learned to steal and fight. Finds her mom, her mom dies in a monster attack, finally being sent to live with a sheriff by a pair of hunters, brothers, who drive a badass car. Living there for a year, but constantly looking for monsters. Once it becomes clear she’s not going to give up hunting, her foster mom sends her to Daybreak. Where she can learn how to hunt properly and not do anything stupid.
...This isn’t to say that works. Claire pretty regularly goes home and either runs off to go on a hunting trip by herself, of go on a hunting trip with one of the hunters that isn't her foster mom. She really revels in the hunt and fight, and enjoys killing monsters (which she can’t do as much of at Daybreak). One of these hunting trips she did she got bitten by a werewolf, but some hunters managed to cure her before the blight took hold.
She has been living at Daybreak, more or less, for the past three years. And started working as a TA in the past year/year and a half. This has meant she takes less hunting trips on her own and is being told to be more responsible.
AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: The only major difference is how the existence of the Outlands interacts with how she views things. Claire’s got zero trust for the outlands and is firmly in the ‘let’s burn it all to dust that’ll solve everything.’ She views the outlands as a source for misery and suffering on Earth.
It brings blights, angels, demons, suffering, death, and pain. And Earth has enough suffering, death, and pain that she’d rather they just seal the Outlands for good and fuck everything out there. She is going to have serious reservations dealing with anyone from outside of Earth and it is probably trouble.
RACE: Human: Angelic Vessel. Almost a Werewolf (got better).
SECRET SOCIETY: Claire is a Hunter. She kills monsters. That’s who she is. She’s got connections to the various nomadic hunters across the US (The glamour of living out of your car carrying a ton of weapons and blowing into town to kill monsters.)
POWERS: Claire is, by and large, human. She can host divine beings and be used as a conduit for them (same as how angels work in Supernatural), but she won’t because Angels are feathered dicks who are awful and she hates them.
She was almost a werewolf but she was cured very quickly so it doesn’t really matter much. She just doesn’t like werewolves now because one bit her and it sucked. (Werewolf cure is still pretty much lethal Claire had plot armor.)
She has an Angel Sword, which is very good at killing things. Like, Angel Swords bypass most needed monster weaknesses and just say ‘die’ but that can be toned back for specific plots and events as needed.
HOUSING: She can be an RA, but don’t put her in Lumiere as both Maya and Mal are there.
RP SAMPLE
INTERVIEW SAMPLE PROMPT
(The following scenario is available to all characters who are apping in and is considered canon - all returning graduates are assessed by staff members to catch up on their lives and to assess whether they’re suited to work at the academy.)
1. TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCES SINCE GRADUATING.
“School here, occasional trips home. The brothers take me hunting, Mom doesn’t. Nearly turned into a werewolf. Didn’t die. Met a girl…” Claire paused, getting quieter, “She died.”
Clare shrugged, returning to normal. “Pretty normal stuff.”
2. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO RETURN TO DAYBREAK ACADEMY?
“You have a great library. The hard part of hunting is the homework. And those Men of Letters are assholes.”
3. WHAT KIND OF TASKS DO YOU WANT OR EXPECT TO DO HERE?
“Just- teach younger kids not to hunt like a dumbass? Hunt things, save people. That’s the gig right?”
5. WOULD YOU BE COMFORTABLE WITH MENTORING CURRENT STUDENTS OR ACTING IN AN ADVISORY ROLE?
“I got kinda lucky with the people who helped me out, I think I’d be alright as a mentor.”
“I can call them dumbasses right?”
7. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE STUDENTS WHO ARE DEFIANT, ACTING OUT, OR OTHERWISE AT ODDS WITH PARTS OF SCHOOL LIFE?
“So long as they don’t get themselves or anyone else killed? Good. You guys have too many rules.”
8. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE STUDENTS WHO ARE STRUGGLING OR DEPRESSED?
“I’m not the right person for struggling students to talk to, maybe they should just be normal people. Wife, kids, accountant job.”
9. WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON A STUDENT SHOULD LEAVE WITH?
“Buy a car that’s comfortable to sleep in.” That smile suggests she’s being a shit.
10. WHAT, IN YOUR OPINION, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU WERE TAUGHT BEFORE YOU GRADUATED?
“How to commit credit card fraud, it makes hunting trips easier.” Maybe letting her back as a grad student was a bad idea.
11. IF YOU COULD TELL CURRENT STUDENTS ONE THING ON GRADUATING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?.
12. DESCRIBE ONE OF THE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES YOU HAD AFTER GRADUATION.
“So there was this girl, she got snapped up by a family of werewolves. That sucked for her, but-” Claire fidgeted in her seat, “I got there in time, killed all three werewolves. That’s not the positive thing, watching her run up to her mom after everything. That- that’s what I’m here to do.”
16. ONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF ACADEMY FACULTY IS PROTECTING STUDENTS FROM THAT WHICH MIGHT DO THEM HARM. THIS APPLIES TO GRADUATES AND ASSISTANTS AS WELL. TELL US HOW EQUIPPED YOU ARE TO DO THIS.
“Other than the Angel Sword I keep by my bed? I kill monsters. I know hesitating could get me and everyone else killed. And- I’m ready to die. I guess, but I’d rather put that off. Jody doesn’t deserve that out of me.”
Claire smiled, bitter little expression, “Plus, I still have someone to avenge. I have better things to do than let kids die under my watch.”
